    Income while collecting unemployment
I was recently laid off for the first time in my life, so this is all new to me. Is it possible to work (besides cash jobs) while collecting UE benefits to make up for the difference in lost income? Someone said a 1099 (independent contractor/commision sales) type job filing may be OK... I live/work in PA. Thanks!

You must report all additional income, so your UE benefits can be balanced out, but you could have got this information from your local EU office. You are not committing a crime by asking the ins and out of your benefits and subbing part time work to compensate. If you don't report any additional income, then you will have to pay back benefits. I don't know where you are located, but that's the way it works in Ontario for unemployment insurance benefits.

QUOTE," Someone said a 1099 (independent contractor/commision sales) type job filing may be ok.."---No.You are ineligible for the unemployment benefits in PA if you are self-employed (other than a sideline business that existed while you were employed at your regular job). You are not eligible to receive benefits for any week in which you are working full time. You must report any earnings you have while collecting UI -- including those from your independent contractor assignments (1099) -- and those earnings will reduce your weekly UI benefit payment. In addition, you must report the income in the week it is earned -- not when it is actually paid.

While each state ( in US) has different rules somewhat, you have to report any income, that includes 1099 or even cash jobs ( you are suppose to)

You are allowed to collect a small amount before it starts effecting your money from unemployment.
