Am I truly a Veteran? My time was very short with a medical discharge.

It was during the Viet Nam war. I joined the army national guard and literally spent days in before I was discharged for medical reasons. I did not go to boot camp.

Yes, I understand you were in the service for only a few days. What we need to know, so that we can accurately answer your question, is what benefit it is you are seeking. The definition of "veteran" may vary depending upon that.

I am going to assume no...

    Veteran Benefits

    http://www.military.com/benefits/veteran-benefits

    http://www.vba.va.gov/VBA/

Mostly because most military beinfits are based on "ACTIVE DUTY" of varied lengths of service. A few are as little as 90 days ACTIVE SERVICE... others require 180 CONSECUTIVE days of ACTIVE SERVICE.

Being you never even started Boot camp, you couldn't have had any active duty. And also having never started boot camp, the medical condition could not have been "service connected".

The link provided does summerize various veteran benefits and basic requirements. But you really may have to contact the VA directly depending on exactly what benefit you are trying to determine eligibility for.

I mean the issue is what are you wanting to do or prove ?

You are not going to get any benefits, you are not going to get to use the VA and the such.

Are you a vet, yes in a loose use of the word, since you enlisted and served a short time and then got out.
Also the type of discharge can effect things.

I am specifically interested in a VA home loan. Also, I received an honorable discharge and a 4-F.

I checked out the above recommended web sites and it says clearly that there are no benefits that I would qualify for. Thank you all for your help.

Why not stop in your local VA Office and have them run your name in their computer. Nothing works like an in person visit.
