About a month ago I noticed my dwarf hamster has a kind of crusty scab on her back... I thought it might have been from a cut or something but after it fell off it keeps coming back... also... once the crusty stuff falls off the skin beneath it seems to be slightlty swollen and red. I've also noticed very tiny kind of scabs behind her ears... but these are much smaller than the one on her back... which is actually kind of yellow in colour... while the other ones are more like dried blood... My parents keep saying they'll take her to the vet but they STILL haven't and I'm starting to get really worried that it might be mites or something...

I'd ask your parents again, nicely, explaining that you love your pet and she appears to be suffering from a skin problem.

It could be anything - there are several different threads about the problem but she really does need to see a Vet.

Thank you sooooo much for your kind reply. I asked my parents again like you said and I showed them your post, and my mum says she'll call the vet and bring her some time next week! Thanks again! :)

Sorry for posting again... We're going to bring her to the vet on Friday, and in the mean time I'm going to try using salt and water... I read somewhere that you should try hydrogen peroxide... that won't burn her will it?

Salt might, peroxide mixed half and half with water will sting but it won't burn.
