    Bushing in bathtub diverter spout
I want to replace the old rotted diverter spout in the tub. I removed the old one by unscrewing it from the threaded pipe with a pair of pliers stuck in the spout. It came off fairly easily. Went to the hardware and bought an identical replacement spout. Cleaned the threads on the pipe and put one wrap of tape on the threads. The problem is getting the new bushing to screw on the pipe so I can screw the new spout on. The bushing appears just a hair too small. I tried lubeing it with dish soap, no help, What can I do to get it to screw on without stripping the threads?

That bushing simply screws out, (see image) If you can't renove it take the spout back and exchange it. Good luck, Tom
