    Red maple roots above ground
Red Maple 50 yrs old 30 ft tall 24 dia, 20 feet from basement, above ground roots. One root 6 in dia heading towards basement. Is it OK if I cut off this root about 6 feet from the tree. There are other large roots radiating outwards? Thanks

You are looking at a major under earth renovation plan here. I have a maple tree l2 feet from my house. House was built in the 40s and tree is probably that old too. I have never had a problem. Maple tree roots don't seek water. You don't have a problem, so why create one ?
