How to get a title for car with lien, debt was included in bankruptcy.
I filed a ch13 bankruptcy and included a car we were going to keep and pay through the plan. The dealer never filed papers to be paid as a secured debtor, attorney said we could just give the car back to them since they weren't going to get paid. The dealer kept telling me they would call to make arrangements to come and get it or tell me where to drop it off, but after several calls to them, I couldn't get them anymore. They went bankrupt, bought by another company that went bankrupt. I have found out that there is a lien on the car and I can't get a title. I just want to get rid of it, but can't find who owns the title. I don't think I can get a court ordered title because of the lean. The car does not run and is an unsafe pile of junk. I have called all the finance companies that took over the accounts of both dealers and the title is no where to be found. What can I do. I'm assuming that someone owns the car. Now, one thought, is it possible they put the lien on it after they were notified of the Bankruptcy? If so, can it be released? (grasping at straws here!) I've been almost 5 years now trying to take care of this. I'm going to be moving and the car has to come out of my garage. They can have their car, I just can't find who legally owns it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
