XP cannot install in SATA hard disk
You need to find the SATA drivers for your motherboard, burn them to a floppy disk and when XP askes if you have extra drivers when you first start you say yes and use the floppy when asked.
But you CAN install XP to a SATA drive.
I would NOT recommend downgrading a machine designed for Win 7 to XP. You probably won't find drivers for all the hardware. Besides Win 7 is better.
ScottGem is right... I also wouldn't advice it, most drivers are software specific and downgrading might get you into a lot of them not working at all... even if you attempt to download,
