I have a Sears 600 pilot free wall furnace, model # 867 734680. I do not know it's age. This winter, when using the heat, the fan would occasionally not function. Unit would get hot, but no fan to blow the air. This summer, the fan was working OK to circulate the air, until recently. Now when I turn the unit on, I hear a buzzing, as if the fan wants to turn on, but does not.

Can you help me with this problem?

Hi- Just today my Sears 600, Model 867 734860 starting making funny noises, like intermittent scraping. When I went to see what it was, the motor was on fire. I am a Contractor, so I removed it and took it to Appliance Parts Center in El Cajon, California, where I live. They did not have the motor. I did find out why it went out though. There is a tag on the motor that says to -oil-every six months, and there is a oil cap that has to be removed to oil the motor. It even say to use 20W oil. I also went to Grainger Wholesale in El Cajon, they did not carry it either. The Appliance Parts Center in El Cajon said their big Appliance Parts Center in National City, California will have the motor! I am going to check on the Internet and see what is available. By the way, the unit and all it's pieces have tags showing the part number and Manufacturer. The tag where you found the Model number should show year it was built and by whom. I haven't looked yet, except to get the Model number. Also, the guys at Appliance Parts Center says the fan is a counter-clock-wise turning fan, the shaft is 3/8" and the motor is a 3 speed. There is a little metal cover that covers the electrical hookups for the fan and inside mine there is a little instruction sheet saying the motor is 3 speed. DON'T FORGET TO SHUT OFF POWER TO THE UNIT BEFORE WORKING ON IT--IT HAS A CAPACITOR THAT CAN STOP YOUR HEART! If you are not electrical and mechanical savvy--be safe--call an expert!
