If someone puts a lien on your home without your knowledge or under false pretenses is it illegal? Is there any recourse against them?

You need to provide more details of the lien, what it was, what type etc.

I'm guessing it's a mechanics lien placed by a contractor you failed to pay.

Its not illegal if they perfomed work you failed to pay for in full.

But we are just guessing without further specifics.
