I am looking for the title of a fictional book I read about 10 years ago that was about a poor woman later in life who finds herself pregnant again. When the child comes it is born with down syndrome and the Dr tells her to put baby in an institution as this is what was done then (1930ish Southern backdrop). She refuses and the book tells the journey she takes to raise this little girl and the effects it has on her husband and other children and how she changes to meet the challenges she faces.
