    Dishwasher and garbage disposal
I am replacing my sink and the new sink does not have a hole for the vent that my old sink had. I've read that I can loop the dishwasher hose to vent but then what do I do about the hose that went from the garbage disposal to the old vent on the old sink? My dishwasher drainage hose was connected to the main drain line and then there was this random hose from the garbage disposal to the vent. Should I put the dishwasher hose there instead now?

A high loop does work instead of an air gap on a dishwasher. However, it may not be allowed by the plumbing code in your area, so check that out if you want to be within code. Run the drain line out of the dishwasher all the way up to the underside of the counter and secure it. Now drop down and attach to the side tube on the disposal, make sure the knock out plug is completely removed inside this tube.

    Hi all:

Does your dishwasher hose have one or two pipes?

If you still want to install the air gap, please let us know what material your sink and countertop are made from so we can advise properly... ok?

These are examples of high loops. (see image) Although we have had countless complaints on counter top air gaps we have yet to receive the first complaint on a high loop. This is true on this site as well as the hundreds of high loops my company's installed in new condos. Good luck, Tom
