    Why my started pooing again
Hi we had recently house trained our 16wk old boxer who surprisingly is quite well behaved, so I paid yesterday to have my carpets steam cleaned and deoderised.. I was so upset this morning to get up and find he'd peed and crapped all over them, I know its probably got something to do with us eliminating his scent, but what do I do, I can't lock him in the kitchen as its too small, we tried it.. but couldn't cope with him pooing in there then walking around in it and jumping up everywere, ergh.. so he has the kitchen hall and stairs, I can't fit a stair gate on the bottom so its at the top, and he started to wlk up the stairs and crap just outside the stairgate.. its no fun anymore..

Have you tried a kennel? Dogs typically do not deficate in places that they sleep in.

As a last resort id use a kennel but he's very much part of the family, I don't really like the idea of him being out in the cold when were all tucked up nicely in bed, but then don't very much like the idea of 100 quid a week on getting my carpets cleaned either

I think by kennel J means a crate, the names are interchangeable.

2 of mine sleep in crates of a night and they are quite happy in there. A crate is like a den for a dog, once they are used to it they start to feel safe and secure inside it and get a good nights sleep without worrying and investigating noises.

I have my dogs crates in the bedroom with me. They get a biscuit when they are put in of a night and we let them out first thing in the morning.
I have found having the crate in the bedroom with you at least to start with is the easiest way to train. It makes the dog feel more comfortable being near you in this scary new device.
I even went so far as to replace my bed side table with a crate for a few weeks while we were training.

Why is it beneficial? Well, dogs are pretty clean animals really, they will rarely go to the toilet where they sleep and will really try to avoid it, so by providing a small space that is designated just for sleeping the dog will be less likely to go to the bathroom in it.

Some other things to try are feeding your dog later in the evening and going for a walk before bed (if possible) if not, a good play session in the backyard to get those bowels moving.

He has his own bed in the kitchen and the front room for day time which we moved from our room once he was settled, he knows this as his own space, I can't have a crate as we just don't have the space in the kitchen as he is already a big puppy an will get a lot bigger, I suppose this house just isn't designed for a dog, the front room is the only big space downstairs but I don't want him having 3 run of the house when were not in, he's been fine with the hall stairs and kitchen an we've not had any issues since we got the carpets cleaned.. when were in he'l tap the back door if he want to go toilet but and has been fine a weeks when were out.. he just as an issue with us cleaning the carpet, our last boxer was completely fine with it, but then I suppose we had a bigger house then and was never allowed upstairs were we had carpet.. just answered my own question haven't I lol, going to have to blog the stairs from the bottom, wooden floors clean easier so won't leave the scent, bring in the joiner, Thanks anyway
