    Attempted theft from walmart
I was recently in a walmart and put several items in a box with another item and resealed it. Someone must have seen me or the cashier noticed something wrong as she said she was going to make sure everything was in the box that should be. When she went to open it I just walked quickly to the door and was about to my car when a guy caught up to me. I just got in and drove away but I am pretty sure he got my late #. My question is since I did not actually leave the store with anything.. what can happen? Thank you.

Since you attempted the theft and only gave up because you were caught, they can probably prosecute.

The laws on what they can charge will vary by state.

In GA for example, just hiding the material and walking in the direction of the door is the crime of shop lifting, you are not required to actually get out of the door.

In other states, if they require you to get out of the door, the crime will be attempted theft, but in states like GA, you are guilty of the theft because you headed for the door
