I need a cure for sticky double hung windows
Three years ago I installed Andersen 400 Series Windows. Most of them slide up and down beautifully but a couple of them are a little tough for my wife. After recently painting them, I sanded the edges to make sure that wasn't an issue. Can you think of anything I can use, like wax for example, that would allow the windows to slide easier? Thanks.

Have you tried Ivory soap rubbed on the touching parts of the windows? Or a thin weight grease maybe? Ivory soap works wonders and has been around for a bazillion years and has a bazillion uses. It's also good to use on a sticky door.

I have used a soap bar many times, it works if you can plane the window. I am fairly sure grease will actually make it worse in a few weeks as the wood swells and the grease soaks in.

Ok, soap it is. Thanks for the advice.

I tried the soap but it didn't work for me. All it did was leave little shavings at the bottom of the window. Instead of planing the sided I used a little bit of 100 grit sandpaper. That seemed to do the job. Now let's just see if the wife agrees! Thanks.

Your soap has to be slightly damp to get it to rub off and stick to wood. Sand papper seems to have solved the issue so I guess we are done, until the wife gets home.
