    Change of Venue
    Hey, GEM:
Hope this note finds you well. Listen, the Change of Venue procedure is still unclear to me. I intend or would like to file a motion for a Change of Venue since neither myself nor my ex-wife live in Southern California where our case orginated more than a decade ago. I have lived in Northern California for more than 7 years now, and she has lived in the Mid-West for well over a year (having lived in other parts of the country as well). My intention is to file a Contempt Motion based on a business in which I was to receive 1/2 of all receivables, receive quarterly/annual accountings, have access to the corporations paying monies, etc. This was part of our initial divorce and has been an order since the year 2000. I have never received a dime, never seen a single statement, to this day she will not authorize me to contact the corporations direct, etc. That being said, I would like to focus on contempt as I have recently sent her requests for this information, and she is choosing to remain silent and not address the issue. That being said, I want the entire Contempt Motion to be heard in the county which I now reside. Do I file the Motion of Change of Venue first? Or, do I file the contempt Motion then the Change of Venue Request? I would ideally hope I don't have to make a single trip out there. What is the likelihood? How do I proceed? Thanks again for all your wisdom!

I would file the Change of Venue first. No point in submitting the contempt motion until you know what court you have to submit it to.
