Do NM wire staples need to be UL listed
    NEC 2008

Article 334.30 Securing and Supporting. Nonmetalic-sheathed cable shall be supported and secured by staples, cable ties, straps, hangers, or similar fittings designed and installed so as not to damage the cable, etc etc

Article 550.4(d) Listed or Labeled. All electrical materials, devices, appliances, fittings, and othe equipment shall be listed or labeled by a qualified testing agency and shall be connected in an approved manner when installed.

Therefore a wire staple manufactured by Gardner Bender need to be UL linsted when used for Nonmetalic-sheathed cable?

The staple needs to be UL Listed for use as a staple for NM cable.

Just be careful quoting codes. You are correct, but Art. 550 ONLY Pertains to "Mobile Homes, Manufactured Homes, and Mobile Home Parks".

You may be talking about a mobile or mod home but we don't know that right now.

I noticed that also Stan, and it pretty much says the same as 110.3(B), so I left it alone.

Since Chris referred to Article 550, and Article 334, safe to assume he/she is installing Romex in a manufactured home.

Even though the Code requires all materials to be listed as per 110.3(B), I like the fact they reiterate it again in Article 550, just in case. You know how "wiremen" in manufactured homes can be.
