Sure, if you can concentrate while doing both. Some people can't.

I am the type of person that can talk on the phone, write an email on the computer and watch TV at the same time, without any of the things I'm doing suffering because I'm multi-tasking.

    Some people can't do that.

If you can, fine, do. :)

I always did my high school Latin and trig homework while listening to Pat Boone and Johnny Mathis LP records, and Johnny Mathis and the twin pianos of Ferrante and Teicher got me and my roommates through college. Of course, we kept the volume low, so the music was quiet background music, not shaking-the-walls music.

What kind of music are you thinking about, sallyg?

Have to agree... there have been numerous studies that support the use of music to help with concentration and improve learning gains. Do some research on music therapy and music in the classroom. It can depend on the type of music as well as it can be quite individual. Helps some people; too much of a distraction for others.

I use background music quite often in my classroom. Even getting some requests for "that Bach cd"... this coming from 7 and 8 year olds!

The question most likely is not if I can, I can type this question, eat a sandwich and watch a home cooking show,

The real question I will assume is, can you ? You either can or your can't,

    Hi, sallyg!

Yes, I can, if the music isn't so active and loud so as to make me distracted.

    Thanks!
