    1988 Chevy quits running
We have a 1988 Chevy cavalier 4 cyl TBI. It starts right up then quits. I have removed the cover from the TBI and watched the injector it squirts good fuel when cranking and starting when you release the key to run it quits injecting fuel. The engine runs on the fuel still in the manifold then quits. It has 15lbs of fuel pressure when it starts and still holding 15 when it quits. Like whatever tells the ECM that the engine is running and not stalled has failed. The alternator light and the oil pressure light both go out. What tells the ECM that the engine is not stalled? Or what should I be looking for? Thanks

If you plan on keeping the car, I would check/replace the igniter, coil, and ECM. Autozone should be able to test the igniter and coil for free--give them a call regarding your Cavalier. 90% of won't start problems are electrical related, not fuel. Replacement parts for this car are fairly reasonable. Don't assume the ECM is good--remanufactured ECMs for this vehicle are very reasonable. Also, make sure you have recently replaced the fuel filter and have no more than 50,000 miles on the platinum plugs or 24,000 miles on regular plugs.
