    Braces
I'm getting braces this Thursday. I'm wondering, how does an orthodontist put the braces on and later tighten them?

Every case is different. However, usually the orthodontist places (cements) brackets on your teeth and connects the archwire through them and tightens them. Every so many weeks, you will go back and the archwire is tightened or replaced-- It is not painful, but due to the moving over your teeth and all the traffic in your mouth, sometimes everything could be a little sore-- it will be fine. No worries... But invest in an electric toothbrush, waterpik and some floss threaders... :o)

Oh, and go on a 3 month recall for your cleanings at the dentist. It all helps. :o)

Every case is different. Probably about an hour or so. Your class of occlusion will determine about how long they will stay on.
