    Denture Problems (Bottom Plate)...
I have not been able to wear my bottom plate since I came home from the dentist 5 years ago. I have no problems with my top plate except for the fact that I have to use an adhesive every morning. I have tried using it with the bottom plate also but nothing works, I just can not get it to stay put!! Out of frustration, I threw it away long ago!! I have thought about getting a few of the screw in teeth and getting a partial to fit in with these for the bottom, but I don't know how well that would work either. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Your Dentist is responsible for ensuring that your dentures are working or fitting properly. However, dentures require fittings or (relined) from time to time since your mouth and the dental ridges change or shrink over time.

Having them relined also helps to prevent your dental ridges from "dissolving" too rapidly. Both types of relines can either be performed in office or chairside or by a dental laboratory; you Dentist can better discuss with you which method (hard or soft) would be more advantageous for you.

    Hope this answers your question!

Yes of course dentures or partials are not and do not feel like real teeth.

But they should fit fairly well and you should be able to keep them in.

If after you get them they don't fit,you go back, and back and back, They adjust them or recast them if they have to.

There is a good possibility that the dentures were never made correctly in the first place. Unfortunately, the art of denture making is rapidly becoming a lost one. I certainly do not know you or your dentist, but from vast experience in all aspects of denture fabrication, you were likely told that your mouth was just not suited for dentures or to just get used to it or all manner of mumbo jumbo that means, "I don't have a clue as to why they don't work."

It takes years of experience to become good at making dentures. The really good denture making dentists are hard to find.

If you can afford the time and inconvenience, continue to pester the dentist until he gets tired of seeing you. Perhaps he will even pay you to go away by means of a refund. Find an older dentist with experience and better still, ask around before paying someone else to waste your time.

As far as the "screw in dentures", Sounds like advise from someone that does not know how to properly fabricate a complete lower denture... a cop out.

This is not "professional advise". It is my heartfelt opinion based on nearly 30 years experience in the dental laboratory business. Take it for what its worth.
