    Fractured Back
    Hey it's me,

About 2 years ago, I fractured my back. Ever since then, I haven't been able to do any tricks, not even a cartwheel. I've been trying to work on my flips and stuff, but my back just won't bend right. I've been working on stretching it out, but when I try to do the flip, my back just won't allow it. I'm not sure if its because my body won't let me, or if it's because I don't remember the steps, or what. Is there anything y'all can teach me to help better improve my skills?

    Thanks Y'all

    1. Talk to your doctor and be sure that the activities you are trying is OK and that it will not possibly damage your back more

    2. talk to your doctor and ask them if that injury can cause loss of movement

    3. And of course havivng had restricted movement for a long period, you lose some muscle tone, loss of some muscle usage and have to almost start all over again re-learning how to do things. Your body is stiffer, your tone lost most likely. And of course you may have forgotten part of the moves also.

Thank you for posting your question to the Ask Me Help Desk.

I agree that it is a good idea to visit your doctor.

While you are there, obtain a complete athletic physical. This will help determine what you can and can't do.

Also, I would get some recommendations for athletic trainers/physical therapists in the area that can put you on a good training program to reclaim the strength that you lost due to the injury. They should include some good range of motion exercises.

Finally, after you get clearance from the doctor and/or therapist, I would take some time to revisit the basics of the sport. Don't rush into the difficult skills. Advance slowly, safely, and confidently.

Good luck and let us know if you need anything else.
