    Teeth scraping/scaling
My groomer said she was having a clinic in a couple months for teeth cleaning. She said the dog doesn't have to be put under, they just scrape or scale the teeth for $110.00 a piece.

Wouldn't that be painful for them:confused:

Both of my pups have not had their teeth cleaned before, but I do give them hard treats and occasional bones.

    Any opinions?

I wouldn't go for it personally.
Sure you can scrape the tartar off the cheek side of the teeth, but without general anesthesia you wouldn't be able to touch the tartar under the gums, or on the tongue side of the teeth.
We did it once for our bosses dog because he was dying of lymphoma and had horrid teeth. It looked pretty good but we all knew it was only about half of the issue.
We had to manually do it, since he got irritated by the ultrasonic scalers vibrations.

Does it hurt them? I know when I get my teeth cleaned (4 times a year) I am extremely uncomfortable and I am human. or do they not have teeth like ours?

Doing it without anesthetic? It's probably pretty irritating. Getting tartar out from under the gums probably isn't too pleasant, and would be impossible without anesthetic - I'd say that probably hurts.

Thanks, I won't be doing it. It didn't sound right to me.

I also wouldn't go for it. Sounds like a crock. You can clean your pups teeth on your own.

I couldn't see even the best behaved dog sitting through any scrapping or cleaning for an extended period. Certainly not for $110.00 a pop.
