    Old montgomery ward riding lawmowers
I have an older model Montgomery Ward Riding Lawnmower with a 10 HP Briggs and Stratton engine on it. If I turn the key, I get nothing. If I place a screw driver across the terminals on the starter solinoid in front of the seat, I can get it to start most times. Then it acts okay for a while and ten goes dead again. Where can I get a solenoid as I am pretty sure that is what it is. The machine must be 15 years or more old but she is a keeper. Normally runs like a top.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
It is likely and MTD and probably a 925-1426A solenoid. If it does not look like that, then the Murray 424285 is the choice. These are part numbers that most any shop can use to cross-reference.
    Peace,
    Clarke
