    Diverter stem works 50/50
I have a three handle shower/tub and I recently replaced the inner seat and diverter stem. The problem is that when I open the shower(upper part),water still comes out the bottom spout.I have applied teflon tape plus taken apart the diverter stem and all seems good.I have unscrewed the diverter with both hot/cold water running to get rid of any air that may be inside the pipes.I have done eveything that I could to it but no such luck.

    Please help!!

Why did you replace the stem? Is the stem a exact replacement? Are you quite sure the seat isn't crossthreaded? Have you tried installing the original stem? Let me know, Tom

I replaced the diverter stem because my hot water stem was leaking and me not knowing too much about plumbing wanted to test it with the diverter stem to see if I got the same reaction. All I ended up doing was breaking the diver,I went to Home Depot and bought an exact diverter stem. When I installed the diverter stem I realized that it didn't work like the new one.I hope this answers your question.

If you installed the new diverter and it didn't work like the old one then I question rather it was a exact replacement. Regards, Tom

    Tom,
Please take my word for it,the diverter stem is an exact match.I have surfed the net and have found other people have the same problem after installing a new diverter stem.
