Pressing charges on a 50 year old crime
Just wondering if it is still possible to press charges against a step dad who molested me in the 1950s and 1960s as a child and teenager. He is still causing trouble in our family at 82!

    Hello n:

Not really. The statute of limitations has run out. If he's committing NEW crimes, by all means report those.

No charges can be brought against what he did to you then,
Feel free to let family members know if you wish

Get him by himself and tell him you are going to tell everyone about him and what kind of monster he is.

I would talk to some of the younger children who are around him and find out if he has done the same to them.

Thanks for the answers. He is not harming any children now. He is just causing trouble, even taking my son, age 37 to court because my son told him to take his hands off my mother, my son's grandmother. My step-dad was yelling at my mother and my son happened to hear it. This step father is 82 and is so strange and causes trouble, still tries to get women to go out. My mother doesn't want to do anything because of his age and she would lose financial security and at 80 this would be pretty hard on her. I still wish she would kick him out.. I would at least like to have him analyzed but don't see that happening. My kids were all warned about him from a young age. Too bad since he is their step-grandfather. I am just now starting to call him step father. He raised me but...

My son wants me to bring charges against him but it is pretty impractical for me since I live in Japan. My husband and I pastor a church here. I did write a statement concerning my step father to help my son in the court case against him.

    Hello new:

I don't understand... People are not "taken" to court for being 'told' stuff... Can you elaborate?

You say he is not harming your children "now". Do your children live with him?

If a stepfather or anyone had abused me, I would lay down the law to him.

If he did it to you, he has continued and God knows how many more he has hurt.

I don't care if you are living on Mars, you need to face him with this and do some talking with other grownup children he might
    Have molested.

He may be older than Methuselah, but he still needs to face the music.

Concentrate on the "now" and not the past. You or your mother should have spoken up some 50 years ago. Now this monster thinks because no one spoke up about him then he can just continue doing what he wishes without any consequences. Don't worry. He'll get his sooner or later.
