Hard wiring a 240 heater with only two available connection wires (L1 & L2)
I'm trying to connect an older sears heater to new sub panel in my shop. The new breaker wiring has a red, black, white and bare ground set of wires. The heater has 4 wires available to be connected to my power source & thermastat. These wires include two that are thicker than the other two and these two sets of thick and thin heater wires are labeled L1 & L2 (thicker set) and T1 & T2 (thinner set) I'm assuming the T1 & T2 thin wires are connected to my thermastat and the L1 & L2 wires are to be connected in some order to the Red/Black and White wires. Help will be greatly appreciated-thanks,rg

L1 & L2 are the two hot lines from panel the to the thermostat.
T1 & T2 are the switched wires from the thermostat to the heater element.
There is no (white) neutral in this circuit.

Which wires of the red, black, white and ground do I connect to the L1 & L2. Do I just connect the ground wire to the body of the heater?

To be honest it concerns me that you even have to ask this.
Typically in a circuit like this with a neutral the black and red are the hots. You would just cap off the white. Use a tester to confirm this.
If you have a cable with only black and white they would both be the hots.

    Basically, yes.

Thanks for the concern. I'll cap the white and attach the red and black to L1 & L2 and attach the ground to the metal body of the heater. I already have connected the thermastat to the T1 & T2. If that sounds correct, I'll switch the breaker from off to on. Thanks again, rg
