    American oppurtunity Credit
As an international student am I eligible for American Opportunity Credit benefit while filing my returns? I do have an income for the year 2010-2011 by working as an Intern.
If I am eligible how much can I claim, some sources says its as high as $2500, is this true. My income currently is after-tax, so can I claim $2500 under this scheme and expect it as IT returns?

QUOTE," As an international student am I eligible for American Opportunity Credit benefit while filing my returns?"---No, Non-resident aliens can not claim the A.O.C Tax Credit or tuition tax credit. Once you qualify to file as a resident alien, under the US tax code for tax purposes) then you may be eligible to claim these credits. You (or your spouse), as F1visaholder being in the US less than 5 years, are a non resident alien. The American Opportunity Tax Credit replaces the Hope Credit for tax years 2009 and 2010
