To david nars- drain question- have the same problem - found a belt wrench at Lowe's (came in a package of 2 for $15) the smaller one worked perfectly to loosen the large nut underneath the floor. Now I've replaced the drain with the same old type - still won't stop leaking? Any ideas? Found the "Wingtite" system on the internet- looks like a better design - anyone used it yet?

Lucky, You'll get no answer from David since his thread is 3 years old and I gave you your own. Tell us exactly where it's leaking from and one of our experts will help you out. Wingtites are good but let's get you fixed on this drain. Cheers, Tom

Thanks for the reply. The water appears to come out from under the new gaskets next to the floor. Have tightened the big nut on the bottom and the caulking nut on top but it continues to leak.

What did you use under the lip of the new drain? At a minimum you could use plumber's putty, but for most shower strainer installations I use silicone caulking.

If you can, I'd recommend removing the strainer and reinstalling it using silicone. Let the silicone dry as required in the installation instructions on the silicone tube before testing for leaks.
