    Back out commitment
I agreed to be the Recording Secretary for my Temple. Since then, I have been promoted in my company, am planning a wedding, and am now sick. Part of my sickness is due to stress and I really want to back out of being the recording secretary of my Temple. I know I ma sick and I really should be caring for my health, but don't know how to go about it.

You approach whoever is in charge of the temple and state your case.

Say you have over stretched yourself, and taken on too many commitments and that you are now so stressed and worried about everything your actually ill.

    Something has to give.

    I agree with Red.

Any new job you take on (paid or not), is taking a stab at the unknown. You can only make an educated guess what it might be like. But you have no way of knowing in advance how the job will affect you, whether you will like it, how much pressure there will be, etc. You can only take the risk, and when you're actually in, assess everything.

That you are clearly not enjoying the job, and you are stressed out about it, is not a fault, or in any way an indicator that you are not qualified, or that you didn't do the job well, it only means that you are not happy, and it is time to change directions.

To do something you don't want to do, just because you have a commitment to others to do it, is not fair to anyone. I think they too would be happier knowing that you stepped up, and gave them an opportunity to replace you.

Honesty, really is the best policy here.

Be Honest!! You have to talk to whoever is in charge and tell them you are just not physically able to handle the position right now and ask that they find someone else to take care of it.

I don't think they'd want you to do the job when you're sick and stressed.

I agree - just go to the person in charge and say, "I think I took on this commitment too quickly - I hadn't anticipate the demands of my new job, and now that I'm sick it's more than I can manage. I'm affraid we'll need to find someone else". If you can, try to help with the transition and selecting someone else, and then don't feel guilty about it.
