The owner is insisting on a two year lease is that lawful?
A family is moving to the US for their job. They found a home and the owner is allowing them to lease the home. The owner was told it would be a long term lease, it probably will be at least 3yrs, however, they don't want to sign a two or three year lease the owner is wanting them to sign through the agent handling it. Is there a law that states the lease should be a certain length? Also they turned down others for the house for this renter, but we are not sure the others were being required to do two yrs.

The location of the home in question would really help the experts in this area out.

I don't see anything in CA law that limits the allowed term of a lease. So this is a matter of negotiation between you and the landlord/owner.

First, what is your relationship, to this

But yes, if I own a home, I can set the terms unless there is a state or local law that regulates the laws.

So if they don't want a two year lease, and this landlord will not agree to less terms, merely find a new place to rent
