First time she got caught... unlikely it's the first time she ever did it however.

Personally, she's going to be in court either way, right?

That means you should have a lawyer... they are. See if your lawyer can work out a restitution deal with the prosecuter in advance of the court date. THey caught her red handed with the goods after they followed her out of the store with them. Odds are 99.99% she is going to be found guilty with that evidence. Offer a substantial amount over the goods in question and a deal she will never enter that store or any branch stores ever again in exchange for an out of court settlement.

Its worth a try. But don't try it on your own. A lawyer would know the way to negotiate a settlement.

The alternative is a Judge that's had a bad day and throws the book at her, even if she has a clean record... or she might get off with a heafty fine and probation. You really won't know for sure taking your chances.

Agreed, hire an attorney, normally there is a first offender program ( different names in different places) she would pay some fines, do some probation and after it is over, they dismiss the charges, so there is no record.

Now that is only a normal, each case is different
