Fixing hair color on dark hair?
I have caramel and ash brown highlights on black hair and wanted to touch up the roots myself... unfortunately, when I used a box of medium ash brown hair dye, it made my roots look a little reddish brown (very slight on the reddish). I also covered too much so it looks like the top of my head is all one color, leading down to the grown out highlights.:p

I think it'll look OK if I layer a little dark brown or golden blonde over some of the brown top... but what color would I need to buy to cover up what I just did? Will it damage and fry my hair? It's pretty healthy to begin with, but I'm trying not to completely dry it out..

Go to sallys beauty supply and get some stuff called color corrector. Explain your problems and they will lead you in the right direction

Black hair has a lot of red pigments in it and if you use permanent color on your hair, it will result in a reddish tone. If you want to get rid of the reddish color on your roots, use an ash brown color. The ash brown will neutralize the red and turn your roots a brown shade. You should be able to color over the highlights. If your hair isn't damage, you can re-color your hair as desired with a golden ash blonde color. Since dark hair contain red pigments, it's best to use ash colors on your hair.
