    Stealing
I was caught stealing at wallmart in huntsville, Al. I stole a wire wheel that cost $3.98.
I am sorry I did try and take it and feel stupid and horrible. I am now worried about what is going to happen. Please help me I would like to know what kind of charges, fines, and if I am going to get a misdemeanor or something worse.
I was not given paper work to appear in court but the personnel wrote my contact information down and my license # as well as my social #.
If any one can help me please do so I will appreciate all help. THANHK YOU!

What did Walmart tell you? Did they SAY they are filing a Police Report, ask you to give back the item AND make restitution, bar you from the store for a period?

Depends, if you have no previous charges you might (MIGHT) get off with a warning. If not it could be a fine, commuity service, or if deemed necessary jail time (Which I am assuming won't happen). It will be on your criminal record, and next time (I hope there won't be one) you will be in much more trouble.

They asked for it back and told me not to come back for the rest of the day. They filled out some paper work but the police were not called.
Thanks For The Help I Apperciate All The Information

Since nothing was said you may just get a warning... You'll have to wait and see, hope you learned a lesson!

The legal answer is if you don't get some type of notice to appear from the Police Department you are all right. I'm surprised you weren't banned from the store for a lengthy period. Just to be safe I would stay OUT of that store.

I think you've walked away this time.

I have never had any luck but it has only been 24 hours since this event has occoured. I don't plan on ever going back to the store. And Yes I have defenitely learned my lesson. It was an ignorant idea and I will never repeat the mistake I made.

It appears they just warned you. What normally happens, they call the police, the police take info and either arrest you or issue you a ticket to show up for court.

So my best guess is that nothing more will happen

Walmart is known for sending out a Civil Recovery letter to those they catch shoplifting. Since they wrote down your information you may want to keep an eye out for this in the mail.

It will be your choice on whether you choose to pay it and I know from reading a few posts on here some will say don't. If it comes you will need to figure out what to do and maybe seek the consult of an attorney before proceeding with either paying it or not paying it.

    - I will add that people have posted that they did NOT pay resitution in the amount WalMart requested and WalMart then turned it over to the Police.

What would I do? I'd pay and avoid the Courtroom.

And the legalities of this predicament are argued endlessly on AMHD with no final answer.

Do you know how long it takes them to send a letter of restitution and what the approxiate amount they will ask for will be? Thanks!

No way to know - people have posted up to 60 days later. I've seen restitution (the cost of the "arrest" or stopping by security as well as the cost of preparing the paperwork to be $250 and up).

Or, of course, they may do nothing -
