Our car was stolen while parked in our driveway. It was reported stolen. We received a call from the police department shortly afterwards asking if we retreived our car from a company that picked it up as abandoned. We tried getting it back, but they said they sent us notification and heard nothing from us, so they sold our car--a 96 honda accord in feb of 2006. We never received notification. As a matter of fact, the paperwork they provided shows one attempt at notification. I'm wondering if they intercepted the mail somehow. We NEVER received anything. We received the call from Union City Police in November of 2006.

I'm not sure what you want to do about this. The time to have pursued this is when the police informed you. You should have filed suit against the impounders. I would consult an attorney on this. I'm not sure where this would fall out under statute of limitations.

Why didn't you do anything when they first told you they sold it?

I'm confused - the Police called you shortly after it was stolen to ask if you had claimed it and you tried to get it back. You state this was in November 2006.

Your car was sold in February 2006, PRIOR to the Police calling you.

It's now 4-1/2 years later. Why are you just looking into this now.

That narrows it down - somewhat. Wiki says there are at least 11 Union Cities in the U.S. So, I'm just wondering, how do you expect to get the statute of limitation unless you tell us what state it's in?
