QUOTE," . . .but i only paid in $80 dollars in fedrael so far whats happing?"--- Basically, you need to contact your employer to confirm the amount of the your Fed. Tax withheld. In general, after your employer learns from your W-4, he/she selcectsa withholding method by choosing mostly either wage-bracket method or percentage method. The choice of the method is usually based on the number of his/her employees and the payroll acct. system.
Withholdings are done from a chart relating to income for the pay period and the number of dependents and status you are claiming. If you wish more to be held out, you can adjust those
If you tell us your filing status (married versus single) and number of allowances you claimed on your W4 we can check whether $80 is reasonable. It may not be wrong at all - for example if you are married and making $1850/month and have claimed two allowances then your withholding is only about $11/month. I assume that you employer is deducting social security, medicare, and state/local tax (if applicable where you live), right?
My answer on the other post mirrors ebaines' answer, though it may NOT be QUITE as eloquent! :-)
