Having a hard time getting to bed at night
At night when I'm trying to force myself to go to bed early because I know that I have to get up early the following morning, I have the hardest time falling asleep. When I don't have to get up early and can stay up as long as my body will allow, I get sleepy really early. I hate how that works because usually I wake up at about seven a.m. no matter what time I go to bed. Then I end up having a headache throughout the day because of a lack of sleep. What should I do for this problem? School's about to start and I can't be dealing with this every day of the week.

It seems to be a normal thing for a 17 year old to go through, I know I did,my brother and sisters did, many of my high school friends did, my kids did..

Stress is starting up, school is about to start, don't know if you are going to continue at the hospital, but still, things are a little uppity.. so what...

The young have ways of adapting to changes well.

You will be tired when you need to be tired, don't fight it(till you're in need of staying awake for, umm, kids! )

You will get the sleep you need if you simply accept that you will get enough, it's a mindset.

What you're going through is pretty normal. It's almost impossible to force yourself to sleep.

Nothing you can really do to change it.

What are you doing during the day?

Exercise? Good diet? Do you drink much coffee/tea or coke?

    If so,cut these right back.

Start to unwind early in the evening,go to bed around the same time every evening (as much as you can)..

Is your room too hot or too cold,do you have heavy blinds or curtains that will keep out the light?

Lots of questions I know, but if you can rule out most of them or check most of them, you will hopefully sleep better.

Also, make sure your getting enough sunlight.

    RedHead,

About a month ago I made my room darker with dark curtains and blinds and I keep the air conditioner on high because I tend to get really hot at night. Making it darker does give me a couple more hours of sleep than before.

Do I? I drink coke like water... I've tried to stop but I can't. I get cravings for it all the time. I just started drinking coffee at work about a week ago. But only on the morning shift which I only do on the weekends, and not always every weekend.

I stay in the house a lot, usually in my room where, like I said before, it's really dark, and cold, all the time.

I will start getting out in the sun more, but what else should I do?

    Start getting some sunlight!

Think about it,your brain wakes up when light fliters in through your eyes (there is a biology behind it,not my strongest subject) dark then triggers the sleep process.

The caffenine will keep you buzzing all night long,so so bad for your system.

Have you ever put an old coin into a glass of coke?

Try it,then imagine what its doing to your system.

Cut back on the coffee and coke, and none at all at least 4 hours before you go to bed.

Have a hot milky drink before bed.

    Try relaxing,no TV before bed.

Its hard trying to break bad habits but your body will react in a positive way when you make a start.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to try it.
