How to apply to the Fairness Committee on canada student loans
I took out a canada student loan in Nova Scotia in 1980 dropped out of school in 1982 didn't repay anything on this but applied for interest relief Took out another loan in 1986 and returned to school. When I finished I didn't have the means to repay the loans. I went back to school in 1991 completed and started work in Ontario in 1993. The loan went to a collection agency and in 1994/95 and they began threatening me and leaving messages on a shared work line due to this I started making payments on the initial loan but they kept wanting higher payments so I stopped. In 2002 they merged the loans and went to court and got a judgement I was absent and never notified. The government began withholding my income tax and gst refunds. The loans were less than $2000 each and even with all I have paid back over the years the interest has resulted in still a $10,000 plus dept. The loan is now back with revenue canda and they have garnished my wages and with drawn money directly from my bank accounts. What options do I have to get the garnishments and bank accounts back? Is it legal for them to do this?

It is perfectly legal for Revcan to garnish your bank accounts, biggie. They had a judgment against you and given your history of not paying, I don't wonder they didn't do it sooner. All Canadians know that you can't hide from Revcan if you them money. Sorry, but you have them on your back until they are paid off.

I have read many of your replies on this site and you always point out the obvious that the dept is owed and everyone should pay. You don't know my circumstances so don't judge it is almost as if you work for CRA.

You have read many of my responses, you have found them all have you. Yes, I point out that if anyone has trouble with a collection agency attaching their bank accounts that is because a judge has awarded them a judgment to do so. That is legal. Oh, yes, I know how it is done from indirect personal experience as a co signing spouse.

I don't work for the CRA but I do know how they work and what they do to accomplish recuping money owed them. No I don't know your circumstances but know enough from what you explained. You defaulted on loans, so what else is there to say. The government wants their money back and as long as you continue to file tax returns with refunds, you are not going to see them; they will be applied to the money you owe them. That is another fact.

The only time I say the 'debt is owed and everyone should pay' is when its obvious from the OP explaining that they borrowed money, lost their job, lost their house, lost their whatever and couldn't pay and all of a sudden they receive a summons and low and behold there is a judgment whereby a collection agency, or the government is attaching their bank accounts. That is fact my dear, legal, and you can't escape it.

It makes no difference to me if you disliked my reply. Stay tuned, you will receive more answers. We are all volunteers here and other jobs on the go, so you will have to wait a bit.

Why do you think someone else should pay for your education - the taxpayers, the lender, someone else?
