Will Emphysema kill me if so how long will I live? Are there any thing I can take to help me from smothering so bad.I use to be a one pack of cigaretts a day smoker. I never started smothering until I had stop smoking for about 3 months.should I smoke about 5 cigaretts a day to see if it will help me to stop smothering? Any thing you can help me with I sure would appreciate it. Thanks very very much.

It all depends on how bad it is now and how fast its progressing if it is. People can live a long time with it... or not. That choice is in the hands of a higher power.

For that kind of reaction I would ask my doctor for medication to clear or open air ways to lungs. Most of the time so sort of athsma inhaler would work for a short term fix. Cold breathing traetment could also help kill bacteria in the lungs because most bacteria thrive in warm moist environments.

Emphysema will eventually kill you. Smoking will make it worse and kill you faster.

I had a friend who died of it. It took a year or two. I honestly have no way of knowing had bad yours is, but it sounds like you are having trouble oxygenating your blood and feeling like your are suffocating. To my non-doctor mind, that sounds pretty bad.

Emphysema is progressive. Anything that causes you to cough will tend to make it worse.

You should begin to read about it so you know what your options are. For example, you could start at wikipedia and the mayo clinic websites.
