    What does "holdover" mean in regards to a lease?

    It means that the lease term has expired and the tenant remains on the property without a new lease agreement. In most cases, if the lease does not address the situation, then the tenant becomes a month-to-month tenant at the same terms and conditions as the prior lease, but on a monthly basis.

    If the lease addresses the situation, then the terms of the lease are controlling.
