I would like to slow it down a bit and not get him anything to lovey. Something cool. Were 25 and fashion freaks. Def. tech buffs. What would be too cool for words?

Do you two like music? I would say tix to a concert where both of you can enjoy and experience together. Music always seems to bring two people together. As for something techy... hmmm... if you guy have some photos already maybe those digi picture frames with pics of you guys in it? Or perhaps that too lovey dovey..

Does he need a watch or wallet or shoes?

Like goodkarma said a concert or maybe a day at a theme park.

Something for his car or a computer program he can use.

If you're looking for a cool gift , I would start by looking online. It's a weird time frame, only dating a couple of months. But if you're techies I'm sure you'll find something that says "hey this is cool" without being overly mushy. It sounds like you already have some great suggestions above.
