Someone is answering the house phone when no one is home, HELP?
    I really need some help.
My parents are away, I told my mum I was going to check up on the house when she called the house someone answered, (I wasn't there) when she called my cell today she asked me if I picked up the phone to her the other day, but I said I hadn't (I haven't been over to the house yet) so I called the house straight after getting off the phone to my mum. It rang of a second and someone answered, I've done this various times and the same thing keeps happening. But whoever is at the other end of the phone isn't saying anything, they stay on for 43 seconds exactly every time I call then hang up.
When I was young I had various encounters with a spirit, until I moved out. In 3 days I am moving back home. Is this weird or am I being paranoid.
I would be grateful for any help you can give me?

Sure your phone service doesn't include voice mail? Or you were misdialling the number? AS in transposing two numbers. Ghosts don't answer phones... there are always reasons for what happens.

I don't think there's a spirit answering the phone. Are you sure you dialed the right number?

If you didn't dial the wrong number you might check with the phone company to see if there's been other problems in the area.

No, my parents do not have voicemail, I am not stupid and the phone number is on speed dial

Stupidity has nothing to do with dyslexia. Many dislexics are far above average in intelligence, and there are many different degrees of it as well.

You have to hit keys for speed dial... same thing applies there.

What it most certainly isn't is ghosts.

Smoothy your answers are not useful, please stop posting. And I am not dyslexic but you clearly are. And its two not to.

The problem with my phone line is that someone has hacked it.

Did your parents notify anyone that they'd be gone? When we go away for vacation we cancel the paper, and we notify the phone company because we don't like just leaving the answering machine on. After two weeks of the answering machine, with no return calls, people tend to figure out that you're not home, perfect time to rob the place.

So we tell the phone company, and there is a service where the phone rings twice, or even three times, and than just disconnects.

    Could this be what's happening?

If not, it's probably just a glitch with the phone.

    Only family and friends.
I do not think if someone was to rob my parents house, that they'd answer the phone.

I already know what has happened. But thanks

Kassie, this is a public forum, and as such anyone is allowed to answer your question. You don't have to agree with the opinions given, but you cannot dictate who can answer and who can't.

We're all entitled to our opinions, and Smoothy brought up some very valuable points. We can only go by the information you gave, base our opinions on that. You'll get many different opinions, it's up to you to decide which advice you'll take, but do not lash back just because someone isn't telling you what you want to hear.

Please remember that we all volunteer our time here, so try to be a little respectful of the people that take the time to answer you. Okay?

Really, can you explain exactly HOW they did this, HACK into your phone line... Since I actually work for a phone company and know far more than you do about the telecommunications infrastructure. And I've been doing it for decades.

You made the claims... I want to see how much you know about the topic.

I agree with Smoothy, There are no such things as ghost. There are however to many TV shows that exploit the dead.

    When you're dead you're dead.
And also you came here for advice, so don't tell the members
    Not to post.

Well, I have to say that I actually do believe in ghosts. I've had experiences that can't be explained any other way, but that's neither here nor there.

The fact is, even when something weird is happening, logic is always the first thought. I don't jump to the conclusion that it's a ghost. There's usually a simple solution to most problems, you just have to dig deeper. Also, a ghost answering a phone, not buying it. ;)

Ghost can't pick up things can they? They couldn't pick up a phone;)

I'm not sure. I guess the only ones that know that are the ghosts. ;)

I've never seen a ghost myself, but I have had strange things happen. Sydney is the one that sees (or used to see) my parents. Jared did too, when he was younger.

Sydney never met my mom and dad, and until she was older we never even showed her pictures. When she finally had her own room (jared's old room) she was 2. She used to tell me about the two people that would come and tuck her in if she was having a bad night. I always thought she was just dreaming, but she swore she was awake, and that the two people were really nice, would read to her, tuck her in and make her feel safe.

One day I brought out the family album, and Sydney pointed to a picture of my parents (whom she had never seen before) and said "Mom, those are the two people that come into my room. Who are they?"

She hasn't seen them in years, but I truly believe they're still watching over the kids, and me. We just tend to stop believing when we get older. The young don't know that they're not supposed to believe, which is why they more easily see what we have long refused to see.

    That's what I believe anyway.

Still, the OP said she figured out what was going on with the phone, so obviously in this case, it's a man made problem, not a ghostly one. :)

Okay goosebumps... You know my Dad always said "little children can see things we are not meant to see'. Your folks tucking them in... I think that is true. My grandmother was a firm believer in Ghost.
Alty start a thread on Ghost. Do it.

I would think that after the phone is answered , it hangs up after 43 seconds every time would indicate mechanical or software glitch.

No... I hang up on people I don't know that call me at home all the time. That's NOT a software glitch. You claimed someone HACKED your phone. Being I've worked in this field for decades and am always expanding my knowledge. I really want to know how this HACK takes place that has other people picking up your phone. I'm still waiting to hear it.

I would disconnect the phone entirely, replace it with another one. Use your cell phone to call the number, and see what happens.

If it is immediately 'picking up', it has connected somehow, with the caller. I didn't catch that there was or wasn't an aswering machine, but it is curious that it connects, for exactly the same number of seconds, every time.

It could certainly be a problem in the line to the house could it not? Perhaps a storm has done some damage, or there is residual damage still not repaired. Intermittent service?

If it is a VOIP phone (cable), power fluctuations can also affect that system.

I would check with the neighbours and see if they are having any problems with their phones, and also call the service that they subscribe to, and ask them if anything has been going on (repairs, interruptions for upgrades, etc.). Maybe schedule a service call.

And, ghosts do manifest energy, in physical ways. I have experienced this myself, and also communication through electromagnetic voice recognition (EVP), and have talked to experts in both these fields. As an interested amateur, even with my limited knowledge, I know enough not to discount anything that cannot be explained away so easily.

I'd do some checking if I were in your shoes. Try changing the phone itself, first, and see if a different phone has the same problem. If it is mechanical, perhaps that will solve the problem right there.

Why not try this. Go to your parents house and use your mobile to call their home phone and watch the phone its self. See if it magically rises for 43 seconds then hangs up... Then your problem is solved.
