1st off the bat I am new so pardon me if this is rambling. This is also in regard to both my current employer in FL as well as my previous employer up north. I am wondering if I have a case against my former employer. The short of it is that I recently left an employer up north to come back to a previous employer here. I left under good terms and never had an issue until now (5 months later). It seems that someone from the previous employer is now calling my current employer attempting to not only slander me by stating that not only do I have a criminal past (untrue), that I also have current charges pending (also untrue). It would seem not only are they attempting to get me fired from my current job, they are having investigators call my work which is causing rumors to be spread rampantly. There are also accusations now being lobbed at my husband in my workplace about completely untrue felonious activities as well as accusations of infidelity (which I also know are untrue). 100% of this is stemming from my last employer, what can I do to end this circle of lies and just get back to the job I love? It is causing stress to both of us as well as physical malaise.

Is the "company" doing this officially, are they looking at you for possible theft from their company ?

Or is this just an employee at that company doing it without the company knowledge.

You can file a defamation suit against the former employer or whoever is doing the defamation. Consult an attorney.

I doubt it could be "officially" seeing as how I left the former employer on very good terms with what seemed to be no hostility. I do have names of people that are at my previous employer (I should have been more clear previousely) who have been contacting my current employer. I know not only their names, but also their job titles and I would think that if there was an actual problem that they would have discussed it with me when I left. This is all stemming from what I believe to be a jealous/hateful former co-worker feeding these accusations to my former employer which in turn is being fed to my current employer. Not only is it causing rumors to be spread which are untrue, my husband who doesn't even work there is now being dragged into this whole ugly mess. Every day I am hearing a new stream of lies/slander which in turn is becoming almost unbearable. It is my impression that some people who I do know are indeed trying to defame my character as well as have me terminated at my current employer by barraging them with completely fabricated lies. I have contacted a lawyer about sending both current and former employers a cease and desist letter to hopefully stop the swirl of untruths being spread all over my current employer. I have done nothing wrong to bring this upon my family. What I am wondering is if I have the basis for a defamation suit as I can easily defend and show the truth upon request. Any advice is appreciated.

If you can prove that the allegations are untrue (and actually the burden of proof is on the defamer), then you should be able to win. The problem is, you will need to show how you have lost due to the harassment. Again, an attorney can advise you best.

Thank you, I have contacted an attorney in FL that specializes in harassment/defamation. My other question would be, do you see any issues if the employers are in different states (outside of statute limitation differences)?

The only issues if you might have to file in the former state, which may mean some traveling.

At this point, restoration of my good name is worth more than a plane ticket. I know I have done nothing of what they have accused me or my husband of and I will pursue all avenues to restore my reputation. Thank you for all your advice, I'll keep the thread apprised of the results of my attorney meeting.
