Pendant light with single wire and metal sheath
I have two pendant lights hanging by a cord consisting of a single wire held in a metal sheath. The wire attaches to the wire in the ceiling, and the sheath twists off and attaches to the other wire in the ceiling. It was working before, but I dismantled it to replace the shade. The halogen bulb setting and plates the shade hung from were such that I decided to undo the wire from the top and slide the new shade on from that direction. So now I get no light when I flip the switch. I was advised to really check the return wire (sheath) and make sure it has a good connection. So I clipped and stripped both the wire and the sheath end and reset the connection to the wires in the ceiling, but it still doesn't work. Is there a trick to this kind of setup? What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!
    David
