    Identification of Three Old Movies
I am trying to identify several movies. The following paragraphs describe some scenes and plot elements I remember from each movie. Thanks for any insights or answers.

    1) Starts with a man on an old sailing ship receiving 20 lashes. A bucket of salt water is thrown on his back. His scars are later used as evidence in some sort of investigation. He fights another man using gaffing poles as the chosen weapon. A woman shoots a bottle out of his opponent’s hand, explaining that ‘the chosen weapons were gaffing poles, not rum bottles’.

    2) A Sinbad-like character discusses penalties for various crimes with his friends. His purpose is to gain access to a local or national king or governor. He commits the planned crime and intentionally gets caught. His sentence is much stiffer than anticipated (something like 50 lashes instead of 5 or 10). The governor tells ‘Sinbad’ that he knows who he is. Later, ‘Sinbad’ and his friends are in a tall tower. A section of stairs are missing. ‘Sinbad’ climbs up a large rope using one or two steel hooks. At the top of the tower he is confronted by a large human hand that turns every which way and tries to crush ‘Sinbad’. ‘Sinbad’ stabs the hand, apparently killing it.

    3) An old witch-like woman lives in a cave, where she retains the winds and perhaps other weather phenomenon. The winds are represented as large bags or something similar (to the best of my memory). She restrains a village blacksmith to forge a desired object while her minions pump the bellows. They have a hard time getting the fire hot enough. The village has a celebration. The village elder drinks some beer, but says that, at his age, even beer is too strong. In a showdown between the witch and her minions with the village army, the witch sends her magic cloak or scarf to attack the army. The scarf is subdued by “drowning” it in water.

Your second movie is Captain Sindbad.

Your third movie is Sampo, a Russo-Finnish production. It looks like both of these movies have actually been released as a "double bill" on a single VHS tape or a DVD!

The first one sounds like the old Alan Ladd "Two Years Before the Mast"
