    Diagram old shower valve stems
I am trying to remove shower valve stem from hot side single handle, and after removing handle and euscusion I see the stem but the is a metal housing tube encircles it. I see 3/4" of the stem and 1" of the tube housing that protruds through the tiled wall. My question is a deep well socket wrench going to fit in there? I seen some folks hacksaw the stem to get the socket to fit, but I wanted to only replace the washer and seat? I don't want to mess up the stem itself if its still good. P.s. Is there a universal tool for shower valve stems?

Have you tried the deep socket yet, or you are asking if it works?

Please tell us the brand and the model number of your faucet, that we will send you the diagram

    Hi Cziggy...

Remove the "metal housing tube" by spinning it counterclockwise... it's threaded... then you can use a stem removal set or a deep socket to remove the stem assembly.

Do not loosen the first nut you see.. that is a packing nut. You want to remove the large nut that holds the stem assembly in place.

Let me know how you make out...

    Tip.

To remove sleeve by hand, first wrap it with duct tape. That will improve your grip considerably. If you have double sided carpet tape use that. Double sided carpet tape will give you a grip almost like a wrench.
