Does a rental contract need to be signed prior to taking possession of home
I recently broke my rental contract when I purchased a home. The property manager agreed to let me out of the contract. I was asked to move July 31st, I would be responsible for August rent unless a new tenant moved in. I was notified that someone would be taking the property on 8/13. I paid rent for 8/1 through 8/12. Now, I'm being told the new renters backed out and would not be moving in. Now, I had to sign a contract and give security deposit and 1st months rent in order to "hold" the property back in April when I rented this property. So I'm assuming the same would be true for the new renters. If they sign a contract, why am I being asked to pay the balance of August rent, when the new renters are now the ones that backed out?

    Hello c:

YOUR contract calls for them to have a new renter BEFORE you will be let off. They didn't. All they had was a prospect - not a tenant.
