Are stores required to allow public access to restrooms
OK I had a situation a few weeks ago. I live in the state of Texas and I work in a strip mall. A pregnant woman asked to use the restroom and my girls did not let her use it. We don't have public restrooms. I'm wondering if my girls did wrong in refusing?

They refused to let a pregnant woman use a perfectly good bathroom? Morally, they did wrong. That was unnecessary and mean and may have led to a rather desperate situation for the woman.

Texas law is another thing. It may depend on local laws, as mentioned earlier in this thread. Call your local planning office and ask what the rules are.

Not sure what you mean by "my girls." Are these your employees? Daughters?

It's not uncommon for store managers to refer to their employees as "their girls."

While it may have been morally wrong to refuse access to the restroom, it's not uncommon for women to use their pregnancy or even young children to aid in retail theft. Unless there's a local law which states otherwise, I see no issue.

How many employees do you have? There is a law that you can't refuse a person with medical need to use the restroom. Exclusions apply.

Its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can cause confusion. So your question has been moved to its own thread.

The link Califdad provided should answer you.
