    Intense nervous
I would like some tips on over coming the intense nervous of cold-call faces to faces sales. I have been in business for 15yrs and 90% of all my work has always been word of mouth sales. Now with the economy that has slowed down a lot. So I want to hit the doors I have been reading marketing books to help with the build of the confidents but still get them more than ever.

P.S the wield this is when I was in my earlier 20's starting this I could talk to anyone. Now I am older and more knowledgeable Its not the same.. odd

No one enjoys cold calling but I always found it easier when I 'warmed' them up a bit by leaving a business card, sending a letter, making some kind of contact that would ensure a foot in the door. I learned through reading and taking courses that you should never ask a question that can be answered with a NO. Think about that one for a while, and it won't be so hard.

I do agree though that being more knowledgeable about your product doesn't make cold calls any easier.

I actually enjoy cold calling very much. Convince yourself that you do too and it is a lot easier. I smile a lot and when you get them to smile it breaks the 'ice.' Tell a short clean joke or something about how pleasant they are. 'Wow, you are very professional... want to come work for me?? '

Try not to be too stiff and professional, make a comment about the weather, how nice the person looks, etc. But make it in a general conversational way so as not to appear like it is not superficial. I also take the pressure off them and simply ask them for a contact name, phone number, email address, etc. Not implying that I would like to speak to the person immediately. Although if they are available I would love to talk with them a moment to set up an appointment.

Good luck and remember make it fun.
