    Ceiling dry wall repair
I have a large opening in the ceiling and am cutting it next to the cross beam.

The thing is the damage area in a small area exceeds to the end of the cross beam.

Would it be better to fill in this area and than put a board next to the beam to attach the dry wall to.

Second choice would be extend the opening which is large to cover the whole area but if I do that its to making the job bigger.

I've got to put tape on the seam anyway so its going to cover it somewhat.

There was a previous repair and there is a seam then to take it to there would create a larger job.

Which would be the better choice keep it simple or extend it out?

What would someone who has training or experience in dry wall ceiling repair do in this kind of situation?

I have the idea of it but not the ins and outs of it.

    KISS

There's plenty of info on the web. Easiest is to cut flush next to a beam and add a furring strip to nail too.

For areas without support use construction adhesive and some drywall screws and add a 1 x 3 for that seam glued against the back of the drywall and held by a few screws.
