What kind of fan? Ceiling, box, pedestal? Most ceiling fans are sealed and cannot be oiled. If they are making noise, it is usually the fan blade mount touching the shroud over the motor. For a box fan, there is usually a small dimpled slot at the back of the motor that says "oil". Use 3 in 1 10 or 20 weight and saturate the felt. Same for a pedestal fan. If it is a bath exhaust fan, they are oiled. Take off the cover, usually held on with springs, take off the small screw or bolt holding the motor in and drop it down. There is usually a place to oil the motor. Hope this is helpful.
